Identity Theft

Identity theft is on the rise.  Some have said that it is the fastest growing crime in America.  Identity thieves obtain your personal information, such as your social security number, date of birth, address, etc. and then take out credit in your name.

Victims of identity theft will find that their credit report is ruined by creditors that the victim does not owe.  Also, victims of identity theft are harassed by debt collectors attempting to collect debts that the victim does not owe.

Creditors would have you believe that because you are the victim that you must pay the debts.  However, the law does not require you to pay debts that you do not owe.  The law also forbids creditors from reporting to a credit reporting agency that you owe a debt that is not yours.

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and Fair Credit Reporting Act give you rights that protect you from the actions of those who steal other's identity.

If you are the victim of identity theft please call our office immediately.
